Vol. 4, no.3 Art, Architecture and Law: The Architectural Project and the Legal Contract as Social Artefacts

Keywords: art, law, architectural design, installation, performance

Abstract: In this paper the authors discuss the architectural and legal issues raised by a cross disciplinary analysis of art projects by Carey Young, Sophie Calle and Santiago Sierra. Examining how legal definitions of issues such as place, nationality, borders and authority can be challenged through art and the location of events in ‘art spaces’ this paper argues for the benefits of a dualistic juridical and architectural consideration of our understanding of space and place.
